A Little History

We opened our doors to dear fellow travelers 22 years ago in 1992 as BACKPACK GUESTHOUSE, at that time we were the only hostel in Budapest. After two decades in 2012 we made a complete renovation and with the birth of the new house came a new name SHANTEE HOUSE. Attila in the early years of his life fell in love with backpacking and followed his dreams to create this beautiful home to share with those who choose to walk on the same path. The design of the house has been inspired from Attila’s travels around the world, especially from Asia.

There are different types of rooms to fulfill everyone’s needs. Happy shared rooms, colorful private rooms, camp in the garden or sleep in our magical Mongolian Yurt during the hot summer nights or throughout the snowy winter times which is surrounded by a mini bamboo forest and miniature pond with 2 golden fish. Relax in a hammock and enjoy our Asian style wooden gazebo ( hand made by Attila in 2001 ) enriched with power points to do your work or research on your laptop or phone comfortable.

As most of us on this planet at the moment we are trying our best to be environmentally conscious by selecting and recycling the waste of the house and using a low consumption water and heating system. In the near future we plan to install rooftop solar panels to transform the sun light energy.

Our focus is to provide a cozy and tranquil atmosphere to make you feel at home at an affordable price.  Whether you are traveling alone – are young or old, with family or friends, groups or students for long term stay – we are warmly welcoming you to our little paradise in the city. Our spacious and colorful house with lovely zen garden gives a unique and joyful experience.
